Using Google Adwords (Tip 1)
|
As the sites iwebshop create, ecommerce, alot of SEO tactics need to be thought about and implemented. One of these SEO tactics is to use Google Adwords to attract traffic. Lately while browsing through some of the forums I visit, I noticed a number of people saying ‘adwords isnt worth the money, its a waste’. I suspect that these people simply dont know how to use it correctly. |

So, over time, I am going to be posting some ‘Using Google Adword Tips’ and here is my first one:
What is google adwords?
In simple terms, basically that are ‘adverts’ that appear on the right hand side of the results page, when a user searches for a keyword or keyphrase. You can setup these ads at http://adwords.google.com/
One (of many) techniques to run a successful adwords campaign is to find the best keywords/phrases users search for when they are looking for something. Google has the ideal tool for this here:
Google Adwords: http://adwords.google.com/
Now, the fact is, that most people search for a keyphrase rather than a keyword, like a short sentence. eg ‘copper vases’ or ‘cheap copper vases’. Its these phrases you need to try and determine and by using adwords you will gradualy discover what keyphrases work and which doesnt.
Setting up keyphrases in google adwords
Ive noticed alot of people, when creating their keyphrases just type the plain text: cheap copper vases. But the problem with this, is that not only may your ad appear when someone types ‘cheap copper vases’ but you may also appear for other terms, even ‘vases’ or ‘copper vases’. Sometimes this is ok but google calls this the ‘broad type of keyphrase’ and you might even appear if someone types ‘vases’. Sounds ok but in reality it will cost you alot of money with broad keyphrases because the chances are the people searching for ‘vases’ isnt actually looking to buy a vase, but someone who types ‘cheap copper vases’ most certainly is or at the very least checking out the competition
How to combat this?
To stop this happening, all you do is encase the keyphrase in [cheap copper vases] which means google will only display your ad if the user types that in EXACTLY.
Alternatively, encase the keyphrase in “cheap copper vases” which means it will only display the ad if that exact terms APPEARS in a users search. So searching for: looking for a cheap copper vases would display your add.
Bottom line, dont use broad keyphrases, use either [] for exact phrase and nothing else, or “cheap copper vases”.
Hope that was handy, it will save you alot of money!
